This monograph is dedicated to the Portuguese artist duo and was produced following a series of exhibitions – beginning with Alien Theory presented in 2011 at frac île-de-france, le plateau, Paris, then at the Museo Marino Marini in Florence& Fondation Brodbeck in Catania (2011-2012), ending with Papagaio, an exhibition first of all displayed at HangarBicocca in Milan (2014) then presented at Camden Arts Centre, in London (2015).
The two Portuguese artists, João Maria Gusmão + Pedro Paiva, spent over fifteen years constructing an imaginary journey through films, photographs, installations and sculptures, addressing conceptual, philosophical and existential questions. Teoria Extraterreste condenses nearly four years of work and research, assembled in a cosmogony of films by the artists themselves.
